Planning & Development - Planning Applications
Planning applications have to be submitted and planning permission obtained for a wide range of developments, building operations and uses. The planning system has been developed over many years to make sure that things get built in the right place. It aims to balance the development the country needs – for example, new homes, factories, offices, and schools – with the need to protect and improve the environment. The government considers this balance is essential to ensure that development and growth are environmentally sustainable; that is, meeting the needs of the present without affecting the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

Clients may become involved in the planning process through having to submit a planning application. This could be for a major new development or a new business building or an extention to existing premises. There will potentially be a wide range of matters that the planning application will need to address. These could include such things as:

  • Traffic Impact
  • Flood Risk
  • Environmental Impact Assessment
  • Ecology (increasingly a key consideration)
  • Sustainability
  • Public Consultation
