We know that where possible every effort must be made to programme works around the school holidays which requires forward planning to select and appoint contractors early. Where works during school time cannot be avoided, work must be programmed around the school day. The contractor should know not to work near or block entrances when children are arriving or leaving. It may even be necessary to cease work during exams which requires careful planning & scheduling of the works. However, at all times noise should be minimised to avoid disruption to lessons.

We are also careful to emphasise that contractors safety standards are higher than usual because of the children and that protected routes are put in place if the children need to pass near to the site. Sensitivity is also paramount working around children and we select contractor that have strict controls over their workforce’s behaviour.
