Quantity Surveying – Construction Procurement
On any construction project from an office refurbishment to a new build headquarters building it is important to select the right method of procuring the construction works. Not only is it important to choose the right contractor but it is vital that the contract documentation and form of contract is appropriate to the project.

Kirkby and Diamond has many years of experience in the procurement of construction work and is able to advise clients at an early stage on the most appropriate method. Kirkby & Diamond’s quantity surveyors have a good working relationship with the local construction industry and are able to put forward names of contractors considered most suitable for the type of project.

When projects are outside of the usual working area (a 50 mile radius from our Milton Keynes or Luton office) the quantity surveyor will research the local market and take recommendations from fellow consultants and other construction professionals who know the area.

There are many ways to procure construction works including traditional tendering based on Bills of Quantities or Schedules of Work, two stage tendering, negotiation, cost plus, etc as well as the Design and Build route favoured by many clients. Each method has advantages and disadvantages but through many years experience of the industry Kirkby & Diamond's quantity surveyors are able to provide informed and balanced advice at an early stage. Similarly there are many Forms of Contract and again Kirkby & Diamond quantity surveyors can advise on the most appropriate.

Whatever procurement method is chosen and whatever Form of Contract is selected the quantity surveyor will ensure that all exchanges of information and agreements are properly documented and that all contract correspondence is clear and unambiguous.

The quantity surveyor can either employ an architect or engineer for the project or, if preferred, advise on the appointment of other consultants. When a Design and Build contract is considered appropriate for a project, Kirkby and Diamond Chartered Surveyors are able to provide a full Employer’s Agent service.

Whatever level of construction procurement is required Kirkby & Diamond’s Quantity Surveying team have the knowledge and experience to guide clients towards a successful construction project.
