Aldi's latest store in Luton

July 24, 2015

Aldi is set to start construction of one of its discount supermarkets in a Luton suburb before the end of the summer.

The retailer has acquired a 1.6-acre site at Scott Road, Sundon Park, and building work is expected to start on site this summer, according to property consultancy Kirkby Diamond.

An opening date has not yet been finalised but when the 16,500 sq ft store opens, it will create more than 40 full and part-time jobs.

Kirkby Diamond was appointed by Forte Developments to market the site and worked to bring the retail giant to the area. The property agency also secured the design and build agreement with Aldi.

Eamon Kennedy, head of commercial agency at Kirkby Diamond, acquired Scott Road Industrial Estate, together with the 1.6-acre site in 2009. The site has remained undeveloped since the estate was built 1999/2000.

He said: "The community in Sundon Park has long wanted a food store, so bringing Aldi will provide a much-needed facility.

"However, crucially, this development will also alleviate the pressure on the existing parking provision in the area, thereby helping to create a better neighbourhood."
